Where do the master draft and platform variants live, and how do I edit them?
AnswerFinished writing lives in Copy. Under “body versions,” the master is the shippable draft. The other buttons are platform-family variants: long-form tech, news media, knowledge communities, short social, WeChat, cloud vendor communities, finance. Sync prefers the matching variant; a missing family falls back to the master. Saving the master clears old variants so you do not ship last week’s cut.
Edit claims on the master, tone on the variant
Click “master” to edit title and body. Save writes that version only. A variant is the same claim in another site’s voice, not a second product. Open a family and you are told save writes only that version. Empty families can “generate this version,” or use “generate / refresh variants” for several at once.
A missing variant does not block editing the master. Factory titles: topic factory. Brochure tone: rewrite. Infographics hang on this article: infographic.
Which version ships
Multi-platform sync prefers each family’s variant. Families not generated yet use the master, and the page says so. After you change the master, generate variants again, or sites get the old voice—or the new master as-is.
WeChat, Toutiao, and Eastmoney go through the extension as drafts; see sync. A variant is not auto-publish. Install: install the extension.
Do this
- Open Copy, edit the master until it can ship, and save.
- For platform tone, generate / refresh variants, or generate only the family you are on.
- Open each family, check title and claim; save writes that version only.
- Then sync. Sites without a variant use the master; review before you publish on the site.
